The question people don't ask,
Is how an employer is supposed to know an immigrant is illegal?
You can buy a fake drivers license ans SS card for $400.00
thats the going rate in Tennessee right now.
Now if an illegal has fake documentation showing they are legal, there is no government office for corporations to check with.
Remember the two companies up north that got busted by the INS last month for having illegals working there ?
What the media didn't mention very much, is both those companies had procedures in place to not hire illegal immigrants and both companies had received letters from the INS telling them, they were going to far when they checked documentation.
Now think about it, the companies got in trouble for checking, but still got burned.
We need some from of National ID, that cannot be faked, a system where companies can check instantly to see if someone is legal or not.
Just as a side note, here is how most companies find out someone they hired is an illegal immigrant:
When the illegal uses a fake SS number, ( say from someone 5 states away), then both companies are paying into that SS account. You would think that SS would catch that the first month, but it usualy takes about 6 months before the SS administaration catchs on. then they have to investigate and find out who is the real owner of the SS number. Finaly they will notify the company who has an employee using the fake number.
I guess what im saying, is there are very few companies that knowingly hire illegal immigrants, well they might know they are illegal, but they have no way to prove it.
right now the fine for hiring an illegal immigrant is $250.00 per illegal.
It should be $10,000.00 and the government should be forced by us citizens into making a system that companies can actualy check the status of employees Before hiring them.

Absolutely. Make them fear getting penalized. The Govt should (more or less) give citizenship for the illegals and strip citizenship of the people that hire them. I am sure there would be a lot of heads rolliing if the CEO loses his citizenship because somebody hired an illegal. I can guarantee that illegal immigration would scream to a halt if you start threatening deportation becasue you hired an illegal...
I like it. You or them, who gets the citizenship....

No. Employers are not in the business of determining employee eligibility. If the employee has the proper ID then the employer should be able to hire them. Let the people who are in the business of determining employment eligibility do their jobs and let the employers do theirs.

There have been penalties on the books for years. An employer can be fined for each violation.

If we make laws against being able to determine independently whether or not an individual is a good person regardless of there status as nationals, we are legalizing prejudice.
