Chris is right. Windows 95/98/ME are all based on FAT and FAT32, they cannot read or write to NTFS volumes. My question would be if you are using Windows ME, why are you using Windows ME and why do you even have a NTFS volume if you were using an OS that couldn't read it to begin with?

With Windows XP it would be possible to convert a FAT32 volume to NTFS (but not a volume with Windows ME on it). Technically you could try to convert the NTFS volume to FAT32 but that is far more problematic than moving from FAT32 to NTFS. Converting NTFS volumes to FAT32 will lead to either massive data loss or corrupting the drive beyond repair.

I can't vouch for it since I've never had a reason to use it but DiskInternals offers up a freeware NTFS reader for older operating systems, http://www.diskinternals.com/products/ntfs-reader/ but it cannot write to NTFS volumes as that would lead to data corruption. You cannot write to NTFS volumes from a FAT32 environment.

The conversion you want to do could only be done within Windows 2000, XP or Vista and as I said, it is highly recommended that you NEVER EVER convert NTFS volumes to FAT32, EVER.

FAT32 based operationg systems cannot recognise NTFS, but NTFS can recognise FAT32. You cant. But there is a software you can use such as Partition Magic, but I am not sure it is able to downgrade. you can find it at http://www.powerquest.com
