managers usually open employees personal mails. I want to find the privacy act so that we can show them in our scheduled dispute resolution meeting which will take place in a few days.

Are you on a network? If so, it asks you if you know that other people may be able to see the info, if you press yes, you're allowing them to.

Good luck, the privacy act does not extend to the rights of an employer to view emails on a company computer. Since the domain and system is the property of the company you have no expectation of privacy.

The privacy act was designed to hold private information in the strictest confidence to prevent market research, info sharing and sale of private information. It is also a declaration of what documentation is considered public record.

What is all boils down to is you shouldn't be conducting personal business on company time.
