Even though there are jillions of bacteria and viruses everywhere in and around us, only a small % are harmful to us. Our bodies have a self defense immune mechanism that recognizes the bad guys and is on watch 24/7 looking for the bad guys. When it detects one it springs into action building a defense or destroying the threat. However, sometimes it gets overwhelmed and the bad bacteria and viruses get the upper hand. The body needs help with things like antibiotics if it's not going to succumb.

In short, we have a department of defense that keeps us protected most of the time by killing bodily invaders.

even though we are surrounded by bacteria and viruses, our bodies are built to resist them. From physical barriers like skin to the immune system response we are designed to fend off germs.
The human body is a pretty amazing thing.

got news for you: we evolved with an immune system to protect us. remember life started with one bacteria-like cell, and from day one it had to cope with other cells.

it's a bit as if you said, this country has been at war against various armies over all of its history, and it still thrives, i'm surprised that it has an army and that this army functions so well. it's a "duh" moment ;-)

hope this helps

well, not only do we have an immune system as everyone's stated, the vast majority of of microbes are not actually pathogenic (they don't cause a disease in humans).
