Is there any way I can record from a dvd player on to my pc, please? I can do it from audio cds using a programme called Audacity and a double ended jack. Im talking about home made dvds and not bought ones-whether that makes a difference or not, I don't know. Id appreciate any help with this query. Thanks.

I don't know enough about this to pick a best answer so I'll leave it to someone who does. Thanks for answering my question.

You could, but you would have to buy a TV capture card. These are cards like modems and video cards but they have inputs for video.

Most computers do no come with this standard unless they are Media Center computers.
