yes, piercings, tatts, funky hairstyles and colors are all a sign of showing one's individuality and independence bla bla bla ... but when you get older it's just so wronggg.... i would say the majority isn't too thrilled about tounge piercing...

If you want my honest opinion I will give it without sugar coating it. I think a LOT less of a guy (or girl) who has one. It shows immaturity, lack of foresight and little impulse control. The fact that you're asking this question, shows that you care about your place in the world and are into seeking information and knowledge, so I have no doubt that you'll always make the right decisions, because awareness is the key to success.
It's interesting but the "baby gurl" who said it's very "individual", hasn't noticed that all the pierced people who want to look "individual" all end up looking alike. A truely original person is one who doesn't go with the passing trends of the day, but has enough backbone to not be too blindly swayed by peers and the marketing media du jour.
You'll never find any truly successful adults with piercings in most fields or life, because people have a hard time thinking of someone with a tongue piercing as a responsible and mature adult, whether that's always true or not, or if there are any exceptions is not the issue. People with piercings are talked down to everyday because it's hard to respect a young adult who makes such a poor aesthetic and health decision.

I personally don't like them. I don't get the point unless it's a sexual thing, and I think they're very unappealing.

I think that if you want to express your individuality, there are more creative ways of doing it with your personal style or a tattoo or a haircut. Those kinds of things make more of a statement than "Look at my tongue, aren't I cool?" Even an awesome pair of earings is better :)

to be completely honest with you, i had so many piercings when i was a kid. started with just a belly ring ended up with PRIVATE area piercings. they were cool and i still have thing deep down inside for them. however, im old now.. a mom, a wife, i cant really pull it off anymore. i mean, to each is own right? everyone has their own opinion about everythin. i personally think it was okay to have it but then as i grew up, and fell into my late teens, i noticed it kept me from looking serious in front of people. school staff and family, in general, never took me seriously about anything! getting a job was a disaster because i had to take it out, and girls just seem very trashy with it. however, guys, they cant look trashy but they look very feminine. its 2007, tongue piercings are so over-rated. i wouldnt put it back in.

I think tongue piercings are just tacky and they don't really 'compliment' anything like other piercings can. People damage their teeth and the clacking of the jewelry against teeth drives me nuts. On girls or guys, no my favorite piercing, but if you want it, you might as well go for it.

I think the fad is over. Tongue piercing is no longer the "in" thing. It's not professional either if you are looking for a job.

I've never heard anything good about getting a tongue pierced. I had a friend who got hers done and it got infected and she had to go to the doctor to get on antibiotics! It's crazy. And if they pierce it wrong it can paralize (sp?) you!

I always wanted my tongue pierced, but after accompanying my friend to get hers done and seeing the infection afterward, that was enough to change my mind. And yes, with an infection, her tongue was BLACK, huge and took her over 2 months to get it back down to normal size. GROSS!!!!!

I don't care about what most people think. Just what I think.

Therefore, I think they are trendy and dumb. I know the dental problems they cause. Cracked teeth are not attractive.
