It usually happen each year but later in the spring. It drives me crazy but I put up with it cause there is no real damage. There has to be a good reason for this. Who really knows?

Actually, all of those reasons sound good but according to a special on pbs, they see the reflection of the sky in the window, or they see through to the other window on the other end of your room.

If they see the sky there, you can hang things on the window (sun catcher) window decorations so the bird knows that the window is there. Also, they make special films and blinds to use to prevent birds from seing the reflection.

Even tho the birds fly away and seem fine, acording to the humaine society, they actually can die later due to the brain damage.

In the Spring birds are doing their mating thing and establishing territories. The birds see their own reflection and think this is competion that they have to drive off. Cardinals are known for attacking car mirrors. To save thier lives, as they often break thier necks, you can take masking tape and make an X across your window. Remove later when the mating season is over. You can also treat a window with a nonreflective film. It all depends on how much effort you want to put in saving birdsd. Thousands are killed each year by crashing into glass.

An old wives' tale says that it means someone close to you is going to die. But maybe if you put some kind of decoration in front of the window, it'll be clearer to them that there's something there.

It could be because your glass is clean and they don't realize that they can't go thru.
