There is a gas station near my house that has "Proud to be American owned and operated". I know a common thing I have heard from a certain group of americans is that they are not proud to be american, and think that being proud to be a american is wrong.

I always wonder about this gas station when I pass it because I know alot of people dont feel that way. My question is, would it discourage you from going there? Would you drive to the next gas station in order to get gas? Also, would this make you want to shop there? Why, or why not :)

I think people might think I am against this, and think its wrong. Actually, I think it is great! And if I ever needed gas when I passed there would probably stop. I always wondered though if people would NOT stop because they advertised this. In a few heated debates on here, and another website I frequent, when I say I am proud to be american, people say why? America is not the best country, blah blah blah. So I was interested to see is liberals would shop there seeing as how many, if not all, in my opinion, are anti-american!

BTW, the gas is the same price, no more, no less, as others, so dont let that change your answer.

yep I sure would. If people arent' proud to be American they should leave, and be proud middle easterners.
I dont' know why in the world that would discourage anybody from being there. If I had 2 shops next door to each other, one said "proud to be american" and the other did not, I would go to the Proud to be American.

I would shop there because there is nothing wrong with being a proud American. HOWEVER, I would also shop at a gas station owned and operated by legal immigrants.

Ask where the gas comes from that they sell? Is it 100% American?

The station owner is entitled under the 1st Amendment to his own opinion. If you have a problem with his sign or statement don't shop there. I am sure there must be other filling stations near you.

it wouldn't make me drive to another one. it wouldn't really affect me. i know they are just making a point the best way they know how. don't think they're being racist. just trying to make a statement due to our immigration issues. or maybe they are just "proud to be american". my grandfather has had the same sign in the front of his house for about 20 years. nice to see others who have a sense of national pride that has been diminishing over the last decade or so. but, to answer your question.. if given a choice between this "proud american" store and another that didn't have a sign like that and they were reasonably close together... i'd probably go to the store with the sign.

It is all about the pocket book. Why should I shop at "American owned and operated" if they are over charging me?. What exactly is American anyway. If an Iranian family Immigrated to the states, became a citizen and posted that sign, would it be same as a white person posting the same sign?.

I say it all comes down to money. Are you willing to pay extra to support a so called American (remember, timothy McVeigh was an American) or would you shop at the store that gives you more bang for your buck?

If they had the cheapest price and a good grade of gasoline and no long lines to get to the pump (and maybe even clean bathrooms), I would get my gas there. I can't imagine any American thinking it is insulting for other Americans to be proud of their own heritage. It is indignifying to expect any person not to be proud of their native land, or of the land they have adopted as their native land.

You think being proud to be American is wrong? Why don't you advertise that and see how your business does?

Edit - My bad, I thought you said you were not proud to be an American. Still same answer.

I absolutely would. I just need a list. Buying American is no longer as easy as getting a Ford instead of a Honda when Ford makes cars in Mexico and Honda makes cars here. We need to gather information on which companies support American workers (legal ones.)

If they sold Citgo I would, With Citgo I know the oil came from Venezuela where the oil revenue has helped cut poverty in half and none on the 911 hijackers came from that country unlike the 15 that came from Saudi Arabia.

Family owned? Or owned by a corporation with a US address? Big difference. I'm pretty cynical.
