im a diehard cubs fan and i admit they weren't t the best team last year but so much has changed. First of all, they got rid of Dusty. The cubs new skipper, Lou Piniella spent $300 million on new players. Including all-star alfonso soriono who had 40 something steals, doubles, and 46 homers. They have Derek Lee, who missed most of last season but is a great slugger. Next, they have RAmirez. Who hit 38 homers last year. Not bad, not bad. Jacque Jones, Matt Murton, and Michael Barret can easily drive in 20 homers to. For pithcing Kerry Wood has come along way says Piniella. He already faced batters at practice and hes doing great. Prior also showed his skill, and they're both starting in sprin g training. Zambrano who was almost the best pitcher in the NL with a 16-7 record is a nice addition as well. Rich hill who struggled in the first half of last season, finished on a 2 game winning streak and 3.28(i think) ERA., is alot better now. Jeff samardrija is a rookie who was 21-5 in college. Dempster has also come along way like you said. And Jason Marquis who was required from the cardinals i think, has performed well in the spring and is the cubs opening starter in Spring Traing. To sum it all up, Lou has a team that can go far i think, if not they will definetly win NL Central.

I'm hoping that Wood finds a home (and some health) in the bullpen. Soriano is a great addition. But, I think if Derek Lee is back to full stregnth with his wrist, look for some big numbers coming off his bat. Pinnella will be the key though.
Cubs win the division. Win the Pennant. Take the series in 6 against the Yankees.

Every team starts off in first place on opening day, but the Cubs may have a nice shot at the playoffs. They will be playing in the most anemic division in the National League, so 85-90 wins could very well clinch a division.
Their rotation should be able to hold their own if they can keep safe from injuries. While having speed and power in the lineup, they need to get on base, or both are in vain. However, the Cubs of '07 will have a nice chance. They'll be quite the team to cheer for.
But, to win the World Series, you need to make the playoffs, and that must be their first priority. I wish them the best.

You know there's a reason the Cubs haven't been in the WS for 100 years.Frist it was they played all day games at wrigley and that just beats you down in the summer, they just run out of gas.Now that they play night-games its the weather geting them in April,May,playing on that lake is tough,Soriano will soon find this out and want out of town as fast as he can get there.Back to the question no I dont' think they can go from worst to first in 1 year, there the Baby Bears.

While they have a chance, I wouldn't give them much. Soriano in center? He's never played there before. Most championship teams have one thing in common, great defense up the middle. The Cubs are severly lacking there. I also don't think much of their starting rotation. After Zambrano, none of them have ever been consistent winners. The Central division is very competitive, so anything can happen. The Astros and Cardinals are always strong teams and the Brewers are improving.

No, I don't think they have a serious chance. I have lived in Chicago for over 36 years and I have seen plenty of cub teams come and go. This team is improved, but they are still the cubs. They will always be losers and their fans will always be losers. Get used to it. The cuse of the Goat lives!

The Central is competitive this year. They have to battle St. Louis, Houston and Milwaukee. But they have a chance. I don't say the bullpen is better with Cotts. He was just awful last year. Dempster was horrible last year also. If he does not improve, he will be demoted and Woods promoted to closer (if he stays healthy- big if).
Your team has a lot of pop, but really not a lot of speed. They will score runs, but give up a lot too.
They have a chance, but I believe they just do not have enough this year yet.

Yes I think they do. They added Soriano who is the best player in baseball right now. They added to pitching with Ted Lilly and Marquis. They have Derrek Lee healty.

well, u never until halfway through the season. i mean, chemistry is all an important part of winning. like the sox in 05, they had lots of chemistry and goofed around. if everyone likes playing at wrigley, they have a great chance for the world series
btw, this is from a sox fan

They have an excellent chance of making the playoffs but their pitching situation will keep them from reaching the World Series.
