If Israel did not occupy middle eastern lands, then the relationship between the middle east and the west should be a lot better. That doesn't mean that we wouldn't be at war, or that something else wouldn't cause a conflict, but it would remove a major portion of the tension between the middle east and the west.

It's funny that Iran's President Amadenajad asked the same question. He asked where the Holocaust had taken place. The answer, of course, was Germany. "So why is Israel not in Germany? he said.

Now Amadenajad is probably about as unpopular in Iran as he is in the west, but I think he has an interesting point. It never occured to the winning side that taking Palestinian lands and creating a whole new nation would cause a problem with the people that lived there? And, yes, the Israelis have as much right to a homeland as the Palestinians, but the first choices, Argentina and Uganda, were rejected by the Jewish groups. As was the Jewish homeland in the former Soviet Union.

No... but Israel wouldn't BE Israel anywhere but where it is...
Israel is literally the promised land. That plot of soil is the living embodiment of the promise made to the Jewish People by God in the Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures. It's more than just land to them.

The problem is, it's more than just land to Muslims, too and everybody wants exclusive ownership... particularly of Jerusalem.

this idea doesn't work. russia probally wouldn't have owned 'israel' (alaska) and thus the US may not have ever bought it.
but since alaska has oil I could see why we would want to control it
