Just curious, as I've never seen anyone else discuss this on this site, so I'm not sure if it's common or not.

We live in a rural area and share in a farm cooperative. Some families raise dairy, some beef, some pigs, some chickens, some goats, etc... Other families plant the feed. Other families, like mine, plant the fruits & veggies for human consumption. We all share in the cost of the equipment (we repair it ourselves as well), and reap the benefits from the harvests. We also hunt for meat (deer, turkey, pheasant, etc) and fish. Everything is shared. We spend virtually nothing at the grocery store. We use dogs to help with the herding. We even have a family that joined this year with their Alpaca farm.

Most of us have full time jobs, but a few families have 1 member that farms full time.

Does anyone else do this themselves, or know of communities that do this?

Co-ops are fairly common in Idaho, although not to the extent your talking about. most of them are a sharing equipment/water kind of thing, and most of them work their own land, and share only equipment and water rights.
