went to see the consultatant at hospital today and the fetal heart-rate is 149 beats per min. Now we have a boy and a girl so there is no preference for us as to what we have so long as its healthy. However for fun we have been winding each other up constantly about the sex of the baby...he says Girl, I say Boy!! Anyway when they told me the heart-rate I seem to remember someone saying that a boys heart-rate is slower than a girls? (know its not something to rely on) but just for fun...what would this heart-rate supposedly indicate? Boy or Girl!!! Thanks guys x

Thanks for all the answers so far...seems fairly inconclusive though!! Loads of you are having boys with fast heart rates and some are having girls with slow ones! I wont go out and buy anything with colour yet then!!!

This is so fun, I used to love hearing all the old wives tales when I was pregnant. With both my boys the heart rate was in the 140-150 mark. With my daughter I really don't remember, that has been 13 years ago lol. And Suzanne is right!!! I had terrible heartburn with all three of my kids and they were born bald as an eagle!!!! My babys heart rate has been 140's to 150. I am having a boy!!! They always say that if the heart rate is lower (in the 140-150 area) then it is a boy but a doctor once told me that it can vary!

The wives tale says faster then its a girl and slower its a boy.
My babies heart rate is always in the upper 160's and it is a BOY!

Slower for boys / faster for girls.
Best old wives tale is the morning sickness thing :
Little morning sickness = boy
Loads of morning sickness = girl
Apparently due to male hormones balancing out with your own while an abundance of female hormones makes you feel sick.
Try it and see !

my three sons hearbeat were all around 145- 150 beats per min, my little girls was 170 so i would say you are having a little boy, congratulations by the way and good luck

Well it seems for me, all the old wives tales seem to work. Lol. headaches for the boy, none for the girl, basketball stomach for my son, watermelon shape for my daughter, and slower heart rate for my son, and slighty faster for my daughter(hers was closer to 153 ish, my sons was right around 144 ish).
Oh, i also forgot to mention about the heartburn one. For my son, occasional annoying heartburn, and he was decently fuzzy when he was born. With my daughter, i had really bad heartburn, and she was born with hair about 4inches long.
