First let it harden then scrape or pick off as much as you can. Then if it is a natural (wool) carpet put a brown paper bag (thick and porous like from the grocery store not a shiny one.) and use an iron to melt the wax through the paper bag and absorb it. If it is a nylon carpet this can melt the fibers and I would use a hair dryer to loosen the remaining wax and pick as much off as you can. then try a solution like "goo gone" to remove the remainder.

place paper towel over the wax and iron it - moving as the towel soaks up the melted wax. Continue till all the wax is soaked up into the paper towel. There may be some colour left?? If so use carpet cleaner to finish up the job.

Lift off surface deposit with finger-nail. Sandwich stained area between clean blotting paper and melt out remainder with warm iron. Keep moving the paper so that clear sections absorb wax. Use grease solvent to remove final traces.

Scrape off as much as you can, then get warm iron, place brown paper over wax, and iron. Replace paper until wax all gone. Works like magic!

You need a rag and your iron. Put the rag over the carpet and press your warm iron down over the rag. It'll pull the wax right up. Your rag will be ruined, but just throw that out.
