I get the same problem and asked the same question. Aside from waxing, nair, and lazors like everyone will tell you try this: instead of shaving in the opposite direction of the the hair liek you would your legs try shaving with it. Also shave in the shower instead of the tub, the running water makes the hair stand up so it isn't as close to the skin. Make sure you use shaving cream or conditioner if you have nothing else and lotion up with a non scented lotion afterwards. I did this and i still got some red bumps but no where near as many and instead of getting them right away it took a few days. Hope this helps!!

First soak in a warm bath for 10 minutes. Stay in there with all the hot steam while you shave. Apply a shaving cream with aloe. Shave with a new blade. Then apply hydrocortison (an antiinflammatory, you can buy a tube for $1-2 at walmart or the drug store).
Do this EVERYTIME you shave for maybe a month. Then afterwards the redness and irritation DEFINATELY will decrease and you won't have to follow this pattern as strictly.
Definately look into getting waxed instead, it's much less of a hassle. HOWEVER, DO NOT USE NAIR or any hair removers like that. They suck tremendously.

There is a cream called Bikini Zone which you should be able to get from most drug stores. If you apply it after shaving it really helps reduce the red bumps and it prevents irritation. Use hair conditioner to shave instead of shaving cream because some people are actually allergic to shaving cream, which may cause red bumps also.

I'm a bare-down-there pro :)
First, start with a hot soak and a good exfoliator. I like to do a natural concoction of olive oil and brown sugar, but if you prefer to buy one, buy a facial exfoliator.
Next, instead of shaving cream, use a thick conditioner! And leave it on for about a minute or two before shaving. Make sure you are using a new, sharp razor. You don't want to skimp on razors when it comes to that sensitive area!! Shave in the direction of the hair and go back the other way if you need to.
Coat with solid deodorant or powder when done and PRESTO :)
Good luck.

First off, soak in really warm water...letting your skin soak like that softens and makes it easier to shave. Rub some moisturizing soap or lotion on the part you want to shave. Use a new and effective razor and I find shaving in the direction your hair grows helps keep you from knicking or ripping hairs out. Rub a good lotion like lubriderm on the area when dried.

well yeah but if you dont want irritation or red bumps just make sure that you are using a shaving cream or soap that you are not allergic to and make sure you cover the whole area that you are shaving with it so that you dont get the irritation and red bumps.

You will find it very difficult to shave yourself. If you want to be free of hair, try waxing. It will hurt but it lasts for 8 weeks or longer.

If you shave it will grow back in thick & much worse. Get a good pair of tweezers & pluck. OR, go to your local salon and get them waxed. Or if you want to permanently get rid of it, look into electroloysis. good Luck!
