Would not the kingdom be improved if all the subjects of her majesty do the same? And why only in the UK? If more people get involved in their communities the communities all over the world would improve.

As usual, we have a senior member of the government, in this case the Prime Minister-in-waiting no less, making off the cuff observations on a National problem, which they have absolutely no intentions of doing anything about! He has not formulated any solutions, and when questioned, has to say something, anything, which he promptlty did! God help us when that man takes over the reins of government. The cart is already rudderless and out of control, and soon Grodon Brown is going to jump into the drivers seat! God help us!

I agree, not a good idea in my opinion,
Mind you, I only have to phone my bank or a call centre to see that this seems to already be in place!!
No offence, honestly, but how can I get assistance when the person on the other end of the line cannot understand me and I cant understand them!!!

Check the parliament diary for any contentious new laws being passed quietly as Old Brown raises a smoke screen debate.
something nasty is passing into the constitution without anyone seeing....
Paranoid? With this lot...you bet!

The basic value of volunteering is that it is an activity which people enter into freely without fear of punishment, etc. Any voluntary organisation which accepts volunteers on this basis would not retain a lot of credibility in my opinion.

He is just blowing his own trumpet. No such law will be introduced as it would be extremely discriminatory. Could you imagine elderly people who immigrate here doing community service. I think he is just trying to think up ideas to impress people that he will make a good PM.

It might be more rewarding to find out why they choose not to stay in their own countries. Experience shows that they tend to try to change the Uk into the place that they have fled from - stupid init?

I wonder if British people who settle overseas (eg Spain) will be faced with the same requirement and how they would feel about it?

I would suggest that politicians have to do similar so that they might get a clue what life is like.
