Rupert Murdoch sat on a panel at the World Economic Forum in Devos, Switzerland last Friday and complained about losing power due to the rise of the Internet and other new media. He was asked if News Corp. (owners of FOX News) had managed to shape the agenda on the war on Iraq and he confessed:
“No, I don’t think so. We tried.”

I don't want the media to paint a rosy picture, I want them to paint an honest picture. War is bad and it should not be glorified, but at the same time there are many positive things happening in Iraq which are not being reported. I don't really think this has much to do with liberal or conservative viewpoints. I just think bad news sells and media is all about ratings.

It isn't about painting a rosy picture in Iraq, but we need an accurate picture. Most of the media live by the creed "if it bleeds it leads" so all we see is the violence and bombings. Most media outlets won't even report the simple fact that 14 of Iraq's 19 provinces are at peace. I've only heard one report (and that on "evil" talk radio) of the fact that the Kurds are building a resort to attract tourists to their region where Americans are welcomed as friends and liberators.

A "positive report" is not the same thing as a "rosy picture."
War is hell. No one can deny that, and no one is stupid enough to try.
But a positive report is an indicator that our goals are being accomplished. And that is an entirely different thing.
And it is perfectly valid to wonder why none of the other networks say anything about the meeting of our goals, and the lessening of the carnage.
And people who want the carnage viewed for their own political ends are sickening to me, no offense.

I don't believe anybody wants a "rosy" picture. I'd wager, however, that most of us would want a TRUTHFUL picture. That would include the successes - something NOT seen on the Big Media news programs.
Our efforts have had many successes. Eliminating terrorists and insurgents, creating safe places for Iraqis to live, giving them access to clean water, electricity, schools and medical care they never had under Saddam, etc. All these are disregarded by the Green Zone-bound media.
All we are shown are reports of deaths and terrorists attacks and especially any real or alleged criminal actions of our troops. But that's not the whole truth. And not presenting the whole truth is lying. Period.
Yes, war is ugly and brutal and people die, but that's not the whole story, and it is infantile to suggest that it is.

What are you talking about war is ugly but most of the time good comes out of it. Look at the facts we liberated 20,000,000 people from an evil dictator, we set up a democratic government and now the iraqis are voting in elections. Besides people don't want to here about carnage all day its depressing. Remember the reason most of the media is being so negative is because it sells newspapers and it fits their left wing agenda.

No, you've got it wrong. Fox News reports the good our troops are doing along with the bad, and terrible that comes along with war. Main stream media never reports on all the great things our troops have done. They just focus on the doom, and gloom. You know, during the Rev. war, it was bad, and it was bloody, as you said, war is very ugly, BUT along with all of that came our freedoms, and it's how America is the greatest nation today. You Libs need to see the whole picture, and be happy that we have brave people that fight for your right to spew ignorance.

The real question here seems to be why isn't the media reporting the way YOU want things reported...There are two answers:
First, because this is a Free Country.
Second, viewpoints that conflict with yours offer you a chance to LEARN something, rather than just whine about how you can't get your way all the time.

I just want all the networks to take down the scoreboard for the enemy or atleast put up our sides score along next to it. The death toll.
I wish all the media outlets would show the 4000 babies that are murdered every day by being drawn and quartered under the guise of a right to privacy.

With that one can ask why the administration does not want to show caskets returning from the war or only a few wounded soldiers. So much of what we see is sugar coated by all of the media especially those favorable to Bush.
I read that Barbara Bush didn't like seeing the caskets and so her dutiful son pressured TV not to show them.
