Definately not, its bigger better and more vibrant than ever before. The new developments have radically improved the central areas, the new shopping areas are stunning (ok with the exception of that horrible silver bobbly thing called Selfridges) You have Gas Street Basin and Brindley Place both beautiful areas of shops and bars, we have beautiful new hotels and lovely old historic areas, and tremendous new conference facilities. We are going up all the time, its an exciting and vibrant city and I couldnt imagine living anywhere else.

no it has not - as a matter of fact it has improved alot in recent years - there are a few areas as there are in any major city. Its the city of a thousand trades and I am proud to be from there. I am going to move back there this year from Canada. I want to be there and watch some Villa games - go to the Bullring and the Clubs in the city - I am a Brummie boy and I have two degrees and a college diploma - I have lived and worked all over the world. No matter how much money is thrown at me I never seem to give up and want to stay anywhere permanently other than in the Midlands - somewhere in or around Birmingham.
Its you - you listen to too many londoners and other slag off the midlands and anything north of there - and you believed it.

I've been looking over this particular question because I live near Birmingham, Alabama, and Birmingham, Alabama seems to have been experiencing similar hills and valleys. (Don't know about Birmingham, Michigan, because I don't live near there.)

In what way? It's certainly better for shopping than it was and there are more decent hotels and restaurants than there used to be. Bars and clubs are not as good granted but that's compared to the late 80's/early 90's when clubbing was an experience not to be missed.

It has undergone complete redevelopment in the last few years and is now one of the most popular shopping centres in Europe. No, it isn't the same as it was, but change is good.

I would guess it's gone downhill but that makes it no different to the rest of the UK. When you look at international performance tables the UK is invariably slipping down and in some cases we're already at the bottom.
