I have a computer that has 504 MB of RAM. My hubby plays online games that required 512 MB of RAM. So far, it worked fine untill he installed the expansion pack that required 518 MB RAM and now the game gets "stuck" and there are high latency times between our computer and the game server. Do we need to have more RAM installed? And if so, do I HAVE to go with the company (Dell) that we ordered the computer from or can I take it to a smaller computer service company? Thanks so much...

You need to add more RAM to your machine. You can buy it yourself but keep following things in mind while buying a new one.

Each RAM carries a bus speed like 667MHz, 333MHz, 3300 so on. Secondly there are different types of RAMs like SD and DDR etc. All you need to do is, to make sure that the new RAM you bought is of the same type as your old one. Like if you got "504MB 667MHz DDR RAM" then buy "512MB 667MHz DDR RAM". This will solve the problem.

If you are not sure about your current RAM stuff, it might be a good ides to carry it to a smaller computer service company or you can even call DELL if you think they are cheaper then others.

Hope this helps

If your hubby is playing games online, its necissary to shut down any programs that arent being used, the bottom right corner is the system tray, a good graphics card will help free up your memory also. Installing more ram may help, for the requirements of todays programs, I run at least 1 gig of ram. You dont need to get ram from dell, if your unsure of the type of ram it is, most nowadays are DDR, shut the pc down and take the ram that is in there out, bring it to your local computer store and just ask what type of ram it is, and how much for another 512 mb.....

I also use a website that gives a good benchmark of my computer, its free to join, you can even run a test without signing up! Its pcpitstop, http://pcpitstop.com/ This website will give you a good idea of your overall computer performance....

Hope this works for you.....
