You can NOT get access to internet wherever you're at. To get internet connection you need either wireless or wired network. You can get wireless network if you have an Edge (or similar) network card that gets signal from GSM or CDMA (mobile) network. And you don't get GSM/CDMA coverage everywhere.

Another option is to have satellite connection but they don't make these devices for laptops and it's going to cost you a lot.

So basically what you can do is get a wireless card for your laptop (unless you have it built-in) -- you can buy a used one for $15 or buy new for $60. Then you can use open wireless connection anywhere where you can find it, and you can get it at home through DSL or cable Internet Service Providers in your area. This service can cost you $20-$40 or so per month. Some ISP's provide you with a "free" wireless router (WAP), some don't. In any case a new wireless router (Belkin or D-Link or Linksys) will cost you around $30-40.

Well... Home wireless doesn't cost very much. Yes, you'll need a wireless router (access point) and a wireless capability for your laptop. If your laptop coesn't have built-in wireless, you can get a card for around $20-$50. Access points run from $30 and up.

This would give you a good signal for about 300 feet from the router and other local hotspots such as McDonalds, Starbucks, and Barnes and Nobles.

If you're talking about much greater distances, like when you're away from the home, then you'll need to contact a Wireless ISP such as Verizon or some other cell company. That would require the service (could be from $30 and up per month) and a card (about $40).

Wireless around home is easy and pretty inexpensive. Wireless at "Hotspots" such as bookstores and coffee shops is also relatively inexpensive, but limited. Wireless where ever you go is still expensive - about $50. to $80. per month, plus a qualified cellular phone plan, plus the equipment, plus a 2-year commitment.
