I was okay with it until you decided to hide it from the mom.
Otherwise, if the 4 year old is intersted, why not? However, most 4 year olds would prefer a different game. Let her be a 4 year old if doesn't want to play poker and don't introduce her to cigars.

I really don't think it is a good idea. She is 4! What 4 year old is going to sit still long enough for you to teach them how to play poker. She will not be interested in playing...too hard for her.

Sure. It's good for counting, memory, planning (carrying through a thought process), and dexterity and fine motor skills. If you are playing with money (for fun, of course!), it will teach her the value of different denominations. Of course, if you are keeping it a secret and asking her to keep a secret from her mother, then it is absolutely the wrong thing to do and you should banish the thought!

I think it is a good skill to have, and what you learn in poker can be a valuable lesson in life--so go ahead. This is either for funsies and not for money, or she has to learn that you don't get your money back when you lose. If you give her a chance to win something, she has to take a chance at losing too.

Yeah, I wish someone would have taught me how to play card games when I was a kid. The important thing is the time spent with her anyway. Sounds like fun. Maybe she'll win Auntie a bunch of money when she's older!

Yes, Poker is an awsome game that everybody should play. At this age, he doesn't even get the gambling concept yet. When he gets older you should however, tell him the dangers of gambling too much.

That would be excellent. People can make a good living playing poker. I'll bet in a couple years she'd be very good.

Yeah if you want to teach them that gambling is ok at a young age, then sure. But if they blow life fortunes away in Vegas, you know why

I tried to teach my four year old brother. he didn't get it. So, your neice might be the same way. But, hey, it's all in fun. Play for cookies or something.

I don't know why not, as long as you don't encourage her gambling, just teach her the non-betting aspects of the game and that might be better; the game in and of itself isn't harmful. Betting can be.
