If we are to take your question literally, and answer it literally, then one can only say " lower it!"
But I think you mean to ask what the government should do about the high level of gun crime, and the answer to that is much more complex. The solution should without a doubt come from the families of these hoodlums. But that is unlikely! Just how do you teach crap people to bring up their offspring in the proper manner. Having said that, I know of some really well brought up criminals! So who knows! Perhaps it is inevitable that we go down this road, as they did, and are still doing, in the USA.

Does anyone remember Bliar's famous remark that they (the Labour Government) would be tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime. What a sick joke that is now. With the Human Rights Act all chance of justice for the majority of people has disappeared in favour of the Human Rights of criminals.Every week there are articles in the media pointing out criminals who have escaped justice because of this Act. Not only has the horse(justice) bolted but it's taken the stable with it. In big cities all over the UK guns can be purchased for about £100.00 if not less.

guns are already banned. severe sentences and minimum sentences already exist. news reports about more armed police being on patrol are rubbish - they dont just hand over more guns to untrained officers - there is a pool of authorised firearms officers, which doesnt increase in numbers overnight, so there are the same numbers available as there were 2 months ago / 10 months ago etc. so... sentencing doesnt work, because the gang members dont care. armed police make no difference because gang members are already at high risk of being shot by other gangs. They regard being caught as a remote hazard - all in all the government will hav elittle impact on the problem, but will be forced to do useless things just to get a soundbite in the media

I am no supporter of the government but the UK has the laws and tough penalties but as in everything the courts are ruled by people who chose to completely disregard the will of the majority and go against all logic and sense when sentencing.I believe there should be minimum sentences for many crimes including firearms offences to include juveniles..

Most gun crime is committed by drug dealers, you just have to go to a pub in any inner city estate and it is common knowledge where to buy drugs, how many people have you seen driving expensive cars yet you know have never worked in their lives.
The amount of 4x4s and top of the range Mercedes outside the p.o in North Wolwich who's owners are queueing to use their post office cards to collect their benefits is laughable lots with disability stickers to boot.
Local police through "intelligence" know who is selling drugs in their own areas but for reasons known to them alone turn a blind eye,or have been told by their bosses to ignore.
British New World Order perhaps.

Give the citizenry the right to bear arms, a people that does not have the right to bear arms is not a free people, but a governed one. Grow up Britain.

There's nothing they can do, as usual! every street urchin can lay his hands on a gun now and they're cheaper to buy I seen an article where it says you can take the gun back and get a part refund if you haven't fired it, the criminals are better armed than most police forces.
