I would honestly try ebay, there's a thriving second hand market for nappies there and I have bought and sold many nappies through ebay. If you buy second hand, you can practically sell for the same as you paid, and you can't get much more low cost than that. Don't worry about hygiene, you can wash most nappies at 60 degrees which is enough.

I found shaped nappies (like tots bots, with a nappynippa) to be very good and easy to use for husbands / babysitters etc. But, honestly, the best nappy I used with my babies was one made by a work at home mum called peeweez (google search peeweez nappies and it should come up).

Nappies with a separate waterproof outer and much, much more reliable (and easier to wash) than all in ones.

Cotton bottoms advertise a lot, but they are not very good, and there are many more, better, nappies out there.

Just buy a few at first, don't get an expensive birth to potty pack. If you find you're having to wash too often to keep up, buy some more. A newborn can get through up to 10-12 nappies a day, but that slows to needing changing about every 3-4 hours, plus a boosted nappy overnight. You can even get away with using muslin squares on a new born (with a waterproof wrap).

Have fun choosing, that's the best bit!

Other sources you could try are www.thenappylady.com and www.twinkleontheweb.com or the cloth nappy forum on www.babycentre.co.uk

I have used these nappies for my little girl and they are great.I got mine from a company called totsbots and they are very good to deal with....may be worth you checking out ebay as noticed the other day there are lots of re-usable nappies on there and are going for a good price..the good thing about these nappies is that they seem to hold their value even when they are second hand.In the pack I got it had 15 nappies and 5 liners and then i bought the extra liners and fleece liners that go with them to make them more absorbant. They wash very well and can be tumble dried too.

Have a look at www.realnappycampaign.com

The website has some good info, FAQs, a help line telephone number, and a 'nappy finder' where you enter your post code and it will point you in the right direction of local suppliers.

May also be worth contacting your local Council as some offer incentive schemes and you may be able to get some money off or claim some back.

Nappies...same thing as diapers, right? Reusable....as in, washable? If so, you might try Clothdiaper.com it's an excellent resource. The Mothering magazine (also at mothering.com) is another excellent resource. you'll need diaper pins, loads of diaper cream, a diaper pail and some diaper covers. There are many options for diapers, some are prefolded, some are even fitted like the disposable diapers. Good luck! You're doing your child and the environment a big service.

I frequent diaperswapper.com. You can get good quality used nappies. I heard Ebay is no longer allowing used ones to be sold, but I'm not sure.

I found 24 chinese prefolds along with two Snappis and at least 6 Bumpy covers to work every well for us. At night, I use solid color Happy Heiny's with a Cotton Babies insert and 1 microfiber towel I bought at Costco. It works great! I also love Cotton Babies' BumGenius. It's a one size diaper that really has worked great since my son was a newborn.

To wash them, I do a cold rinse cycle, then I used a Hot or Warm wash with Charlie's Soap then a cold rinse. Line dry or drier.
