If these people would just take the time to read the Constitution, they would know the Speaker does NOT become Vice President if something happens to the current one. The 25th Amendment says (paragraph 2):

Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

Probably because the Speaker is the next in line to take over as President if both the Prez and VP were to not be able to serve. However, you are correct that if the only the VP were to not be able to serve, the Prez would nominate someone of his own choice. Nixon did this when Agnew resigned and Nixon chose the Minority Leader Gerald Ford.

VPs are inherently uninteresting because of the fact they are in fact in basic terms a spare tire. in spite of each and all of the rhetoric approximately picking an experienced vice chairman who can take over the workplace of President, the possibilities of a President no longer ending his term are easily fairly low. Kennedy became into the exception, no longer the guideline. Vice Presidents are chosen a minimum of as plenty for stability (geographical and political) as much as for experience. In that regard, LBJ became right into a stable stability for JFK (reasonably conservative Southerner and liberal New Englander). Vice Presidents do get a leg up at working for President, although, yet they nonetheless could desire to win the activity on their very own.

Because if you really read many of the questions and answers here you will find that a huge potion of the participants are very uninformed.

The scenario you outlined about the succession of the VP is how Ford became President. He was not elected as the VP.

How many citizens of the US have read the US Constitution. And those who read it, how many understood the constitution?
It is easy to blame the schools, but the blame should lie on the powers behind the schools that seem to be demanding an ignorant collection of citizens loyal to the government without being able to spell government... much less understand how the government works.

Probably because public schools don't teach students the basics of Constitutional government anymore. They had to eliminate something to increase environmental indoctrination and the Constitution lost.

I think it is a combination of ignorance of what the Constitution actually says, and wishful thinking.
