It is a combination of the words poop and dookie. In its original state pookie was a cute non offensive way to tell someone that they look like Sh*t. This term was used as New York slang in the 1930s. Since then, it has elvolved to be used as a pet name for a mate during courtship.

I was told it was Scottish and was used when talking about someone who is always into everything.....rummaging through draws and cupboards etc....inquisitive. It would be interesting if someone knew what it really meant
