I have a cable modem connected to a Netgear wireless router. Sometimes I have issues when trying to use the wireless network at home that the modem needs to be rebooted because it just stops working. This happens pretty often - maybe 3-4 times a week!

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any settings I need to make on the router for even the modem that can fix this?

if the modem needs to be rebooted, i would get the cable company to replace it, and maybe the line to the pole outside. Sounds like it can't hold the connection. could be bad hardware or a faulty line.

I have a similar setup. I have determined the problem to be caused by the DHCP lease from my ISP expiring. Most of the time a DHCP address goes stale after a few days. Even though the router should handle this without the PC's on the network being affected, they are affected, and the solution is do either do an ipconfig /release /renew, or just toggle the power on the router. when it comes back up, your devices will receive new dhcp leases and all will be well in the world. You could ask your ISP for a static IP (usually extra cost) or to change the lease expire time, but they probably won't do that, so just do a power cycle and all will be well. A simple solution would be to put a lamp timer on the router and have it power off and back on at 2am (or whenever) every morning. That way it would be hands off. just be sure you don't have your antivirus or computer updates scheduled to take place close to the timed poweroff.

A strict modem grants an information superhighway feed using the Ethernet protocol. Any gateway router can take this sign and supply the mandatory router function. If the router has a geared up in on the spot get entry to factor (oftentimes referred to as on the spot router), you apart from might could have on the spot ability. It makes little distinction no rely if it extremely is a Linksys or different type. My selection is to avert low end abode grade routers as they're poorly geared up, unreliable, and a upkeep nuisance. Linksys, Netgear, Belkin, D hyperlink etc are all the less expensive, low end, unfavorable high quality contraptions that i do no longer use. in spite of the undeniable fact that, I put in solid high quality organisation type networks.

This happens to me ALL THE TIME!!
**happenED**

I have a Linksys router, but they all work the same.

To fix the problem, you must go to the router's configuration page(s) and change the "client lease time" to 10000 (minutes).

~This will keep you connected for one week at a time.

NOTES:
>The 'client lease time' may be different for you: it may be called something else...
>Your router must be configured to "keep alive" the internet connection. Some modems disconnect after a period of inactivity. Set the timer to 5 or 10 minutes

>If you have problems connecting, unplug the router & modem for 30 seconds, then plug them back in.

GOOD LUCK!
