Some people are genuinely concerned with our environment but others make big and easy money by promoting ideas such as global warming, e.g. foundations provide financial support to groups who make "big noise" about things which are anti-capitalism, anti-Christian, anti-conservative, etc. Listen to their objections for facts and the source of those facts. As for genuineness Vs hyprocrisy, Al Gore's home averages over $2,000/month in gas + electric bills according to the Tenn. Center for policy research. Barbara Streisand (with the voice of an angel) has a horse barn of 12,000 sq.ft. that is heated and cooled.
I am not an environmental scientist but I do understand that volcanoes put more many times more pollutants into the atmosphere than what we do by our own efforts. Obviously, we can't do anything about that.
Abuse of natural resources is a bad thing, but reasonable enjoyment is another. What's reasonable? Well, reasonable people know the answer. Those who stand to gain from hyperbole as well as narcissists, are not interested in "reasonable".

I really do not know how much of the global warming is true, However anything to clean up polluting our world is a plus. I think the media is pushing the fear of global warming just as they push many other fears in our heads. Some times the facts get twisted so the ratings and sales of such news can make the general public keep searching for more news, after all most of us believe what the news has to say. If you look back on all the scares the media has blown out of portion but yet got high ratings, what do you think there going to do ? Yea blow it out of portion. I could very well be wrong but lets just think about it for a minute.

There is a process to change, and you can do a part to help global warming. There are web sites that will generate a very rough idea of how much co2 you are puting into the earth, and thru donations, they can estimate how many trees would need to be planted to ofset your global warming contributions. For starters you can change your light bulbs from the little round bulbs to florescent, they are a bit more expensive but use 10 times less energy.
Try doing a search, from your favorite search engine, and enter something like, "can i change global warming", or "reduce global warming", or "offset global warming".
Scientists have been trying to warn of the disasters coming, but because of past experiences, they were taken as most scientists discoveries, because discoveries in science require them to have evidence. Something that has been shown by many scientists lately, and a program run by the BBC on a client application called Boinc, the project was a climate prediction model run on thousands of volunteer computers to demonstrate what the co2 levels in our atmosphere are doing, have done, and will do if we dont make some changes right now......
Do some research, you will see its not a matter of shoving this down your throat, its people trying to make a change, and the only way to do that is to get everyones attention.........Now they have yours hopefully!

People have been warning about global warming for years. It isn't just now being crammed down your throat. We are all responsible for a good portion of this - the U.S. is the largest contributor to the things that cause global warming. And yes, the average person CAN do a few things to help global warming, if enough average citizens actually do something.

The AVERAGE person can do nothing about global warming? Then who can? What's the difference between these people?
NOTHING.

Everyone effects global warming, and everyone will be effected by global warming.

These effects change our world on a daily basis, and over time, these changes will have accumulated to a very large and dangerous change.

Why can the average person do nothing? That's not true.
Everything from plastic bags at the grocery store, cars, light bulbs, electricty usage in you home, and rainforest destruction is involved in changing our world as we know it.

The ice caps are melting, glaciers are receeding, and sea levels are rising. Explain how this does not effect you, thus should not be of your concern?

You can't.

This article of Al Gore is merely making a mockery of him by those who think global warming prevention is dependant on who you are and what one is therefore able to do.

Those who think that they can do nothing, are only choosing not to and don't care enough to otherwise. How selfish and ignorant.

At the current trend with the amount of pollution humans put into the atmosphere and the amount of aerosol cans being used, global warming will cause major problems in the future. Its already a problem with 2007 being the warmest year in many years. its not a major problem now, but it will be in years to come. if we can do something about it now future generations after us will be better off including your kids and grandkids.

Because the average person can affect the people that can do something.

Suppose all average people decided that they'd no longer buy gas-only engines. That'd be a powerful incentive to the car makers to make hybrid or alternate fuel cars.

Just one example.

Wrong and wrong.

It is not being "rammed down our throats", unless you can prove to me that you are being FORCED to do something that is detrimental to you and your health.

The average person CAN do something.
It starts with you and me.
We can look for ways to improve the air, water and earth by the things we use, eat and buy.

Perhaps you are one of those people who are selfish and do not care what kind of world you'll leave behind for our future, the children.

Perhaps all you care about is your creature comfort and material wealth.

Far be it for me to pass judgment on you.

As for my point of view, there is not enough being done to stop:
1. clear-cutting rain forests;
2. melting arctic circle;
3. water and air pollution;
4. illegal heavy metal waste disposal.

And in the meantime, add to the fact that countless people drive over-sized vehicles with only one person inside.
They over-eat and waste too much food.
All this adds up to wasted gasoline (which equates to increased dependence in foreign oil) and increased demand for growing food (which equates to increased use of fertilizer and contaminated ground water).

Those are things that an indivdual (like you and me) can do to change.

So, you are free to complain or you can open your mind to ways to help solve problems.
Either way, we all have a choice to be a whiner or a doer.

Because when a disaster of this scale is happening, has been happening for about a century, and shows no signs of stopping, the least you can do is make sure everyone knows about it.

I agree with you about people who could do something about it aren't doing anything about it.
