Hi, I asked this question earleir and got a very good respons, but I am still not sure if I understand it. I am creating a web site with dreamweaver and it is asking me for my FTP host and Host directory. I put my doman name in the FTP Host area but I am not sure what I should put for Host Directory. I tried leaving it blank. When I hit "test" it will not work. I am creating this site to run on godaddy.

Thought you might find this tutorial helpful....although you will still need to know the address of your ftp server....and (like everybody else said) that will depend on your space provider. good luck!

FTP host is either the ftp address or the ip address of the computer (server) hosting your files. Your hosting company should have given this to you when you signed up. For example, an example Yahoo! host might be ftp.username.com... (they have been for some of my clients - I design websites).

The FTP directory is the name of the folder, on the host, that holds your files. You can often leave this blank. (It is often /www) For example, on my clients with Yahoo! as their host it is /www but, when I was *explicit* in specifying it on my FTP program I got a (meaningless) error about it not being allowed because I was not the "owner" of the directory...I was still allowed to transfer files.

Where is your site hosted? It varies depending on which hosting service you use. When you signed up, your web host should have sent an email telling where to upload your files.

In the case of Dreamhost, for example, it would be something.dreamhost.com with the directory whatever you specified when you set up the domain. It will be different for other hosting services.
