The earliest Sumerian versions of the epic date from as early as the Third dynasty of Ur (2150 BC-2000 BC) . The earliest Akkadian versions are dated to the early second millennium. It contains an account of a "flood" as well as a quest for immortality. It is among the oldest, if not THE oldest written tale in the world. Do you know what it is?

This is the epic of Gilgamesh. And no, it is not the oldest written tale in the world. The earliest Pyramid Texts from Egypt are dated 2400 BC; Sumerian texts from Abu Salabikh, including the Instructions of Shuruppak and the Kesh Temple Hymn, are dated 2600 BC...
