No, but it's going to happen. Bush, Fox, and the Prime Minister of Canada signed in secrecy about the passing of the North American Union. First part is underway with the huge superhighway system going from Mexico to Canada right through the middle of the US. Then comes the combining of all three countries, the National ID card (which luckily 36of the states have gone against) then comes the RFID chip, a single one country currency. Then let the HELLISH NIGHTMARE BEGIN.

It would destroy the US economically. Our country, much as we love it, isn't prepared to bring Mexico up to our safety standards or standard of living. It would bankrupt us. Want proof? Come down to Southern Arizona & look at the houses built on the hill across the border. It's an established shanty town. Or go to South Texas & look at all the smoke billowing out of the factories & homes, just across the river from the US. We can't afford to make Mexico a part of the US. Simple economics.

It's an interesting idea. All of the southwesern U.S. used to be Mexico, so it's not really a radical idea. I guess it depends upon the conditions. If the two countries really fairly merged, and there were a fair system of states and representation, I suppose it could work. You would probably need to agree on a single language for government work. And there would be a significant problem in trying to instantly implement U.S. regulation (environmental issues, labor laws, etc.). I don't know exactly what the benefits to either side would be, so that would be the next key issue to look at.

Hmmm.....that's a tough one. Make a poverty stricken 3rd world country with a corrupt government part of the U.S. I think I'm gonna have to say no on that one.
I've got a better idea though. How 'bout we close our border with Mexico, enforce our immigration laws, and ship the millions of mexicans that are here illegally home before they completely ruin our country?

I know some of you folks have short memories but the peso crashed in '94 - not something you should have forgotten.
NO. If you want to let them come here, fine - just remember to attribute the rise in deep poverty to this influx of poor people rather than to "economic inequality" among people already here - but we do not want to merge with Mexico. The dollar is weak enough as it is.
If we want to merge with anyone, how about Japan?

Wow that's a great question! It would definitely change the U.S. drastically--but I don't know if it would be for the better...
I WOULD, however, get a laugh out of all the companies who outsourced to Mexico to save money!! :-)

No, I would not be ok with this. We already having a hard time dealing with ourselves as is. We don't need any additional headache by adding another country as our own.
