I have smoked weed for 4 years, am 21 and have a full time job and am a homeowner. I get really stressed out with life due to money, job, house etc and I find the only thing that destresses me quickly is a spliff. I want to quit as I know it isn't the best thing to spend my spare money on and I have a house to decorate, but I do enjoy it as well which makes it difficult!
Any helpful suggestions would be great! :-)

everyone has an outlet of some sort even if they choose not to admit it. People talk badly about pot smokers but for some reason it is acceptable to go out drinking every night. I think anything in moderation is ok. You are the only one who can decide if you should quit. I personally wouldn't have any suggestions about that one because when i decided to try to save some money i cut out cigarettes first and then alcohol and then just cut down on pot. If you have finished with work for the day and are home relaxing what is the difference between cracking open a beer and sparking a J? some people still look at marijuana as a criminal activity even though research nowadays is beginning to prove the benefits. As long as it is not consuming your life (or your paycheck) having something to splurge on once in awhile is actually healthy.

OK, Well, This is a really fast guess but, I would have to say everything is better without weed. And, Just to let you know it's not addicting. It's just your brain telling you that it is. Well, As you see if you were smoking because if stress or whatever,Then when the high goes away, your left with the same problems that you had in the first place, I guess people get so used to running away from there problem that they think that the weed is the thing that's addicting, But what they are addicted to is running away from all of the problems, and that's what you have to get used to the most, is facing your fears and being sober and working through the things that are bothering you.

You say you are stressed out about money. You smoke weed (which takes money) to destress? Clear the smoke from your eyes and see clearly. After you smoke a blunt and the effects are gone you still have stress but a lot less cash. It makes no sense! Let me put it this way.

Stress = No Money

Weed = No Money

More Money = Less Stress

No Weed = More Money = Less Stress

Sorry to put it so "Bluntly"! He,he!

When I quit smoking, I pretty much replaced the time I spent being high with time spent enjoying hobbies like reading, movies and video games. And the money I used to smoke up went to buying books and stuff and going to movies. I've always found that if you want to stop doing something, you need to replace it with something else. I find hobbies to be a better use of my time and money because they are cheaper, legal and I don't have to sacrifice my brain cells to enjoy myself. A good novel really comes alive when you can remember the last chapter you read.

Hi Holly,

We all need something to use as a crutch to help us deal with life's stresses and distresses.

If for me, it's talking to my family; yours as you say is smoking weeds.

There are a lot of free services being offered now that helps people to find new ways of coping with the demands of everyday life.

There are also medications that can be prescribed to help substance users to cope with the possible occurence of withdrawal symptoms. As you have mentioned, you've been using weed now for 4 years, and although you didn't specify the amount that you use, there's a tendency for your body to get used to it.

I think you've made the first step in getting help by asking for advice in this medium, but I think it would also be very helpful if you can see your GP about this and ask him to refer you to local services that can help you with your 'addiction' to weed.

Good Luck.

I dont know why one would quit. Seems like you can either afford it or you cant. If you can you may as well smoke it when you need it.

-And yeah listen to the guy under this that says its bad to smoke it and to take a hot shower, lol. Maybe he should smoke some the next time he decides to kill himself?

try to remember the peaceful feeling you have when you smoke and just try to live that way everyday without it. go for a walk in the woods or read a book or maybe you're really not doing anything wrong if you're not spending too much money on it!!

i think u just need self control, bcuz i have been through major stress n drama in my life for da past two yrs. attempted suicide twice but never even touch mary jane or any other drugs. The best thing to do when ur stress out is take a nice long hot shower or go for a walk. or maybe jsut call up someone n just talk to them about it.

You are only going to quit if you really want to....you know the downs.....it numbs you, it doesn't make the problems go away, as you know, so either take it like a man, or keep smoking.

If you REALLY want to quit, try Tibetan meditation. It quickly de-stresses you and makes you feel clear and calm.

Otherwise, try to limit your smoking to Friday and Saturday nights only. This will give you more balance, and also makes your stash last longer.

Peace.
