Dan Marino was living proof that if you play long enough you can own the QB statistics book. His ability to carry a team by himself was always in question. That might be proof in itself that the NFL is a team sport. To this day it is still my feeling that he was over-rated when compared to Elway, Montana, and other hall of famer quarterbacks.

Great stats. Yes he had great stats. He also won a lot of games. That is an accomplishment in itself. Yes he never won the big one, but he never had a bunch of good players to help him out. Another example of this would be Fran Tarkenton who had most of the records before Dan. Was he also over rated . I dont think so. Look at Tom Brady. Would he have one without the Receivers and the totally overlooked kicker. Remember the kicker won the super bowls for New England. Without those kicks , New England would not have won the Super Bowls. Put Brady on those Dolphin teams and he probably would be lucky to win half of his teams games. Marino was one of the greats even though he did not win the big one. It still is a team sport and all the players contribute to winning .

Dan "The Man" Marino and the Miami Dolphins beat the 1985 Chicago Bears. That was the only loss for the Bears that year. That Bears team is known as one of the greatest teams in NFL history. The Dolphins won that game in 1985 only because Marino was quarterback.

What Quarterback isnt about stats?? Stats are what make great players great.

Remember, football is not like basketball. It takes 11 people to be on the same page and timing to even move the ball a yard.

I can assure you that if you put Tom Brady on the Houston Texans he would never make the playoffs. Hes a great quarterback but no team.

The funny thing about people who rip on Dan Marino is this. They say the dude is about stats blah blah blah, but when you ask who their favorite quarterback is. Lets use John Elway for example, the first thing they say is how he has the more wins than any other quarterback. whats that? oh yeah a STAT

Then I guess you are saying that Manning was over-rated until this season? Yeah I bet you won't though. Marino didn't have great teams. He didn't have a D to save him in the Playoffs, like Manning's D saved him. The Dolphins didn't run so there wasn't much guarding against the run. They just covered the pass.

Yes of course, cause it would be Marinos fault if his receivers didnt catch the ball, Marino's fault if his running backs missed the open holes, Marino's fault if his offensive line couldnt block, and Marino's fault if his defense couldnt stop anybody. The QB is the leader of the team, but he is not the entire team.

The problem I had with Marino is that he never took accountability. If there was a bad pass on his part, he would always yell at Clayton and Duper that they should have gone and got it, or if he was sacked, rushed or flushed out of the pocket, he would always take it out on the line.

His stats are obvioulsy great and MAYBE he would have gotten a ring if he had a good runningback behind him, but for me, he was far too selfish for his own good and that is why he doesn't have a championship.

Marino was great, but they depended too much on him. Does any one remember the names of the running backs on the teams he palyed on?

I choose "great passer" but add "with mediocre teams". He couldn't get enough good people around him to make Super Bowl runs
