For those of you interested in anti-war messages, my all time 3 favorites:
1. Kurosawa's masterpiece, Kagemusha, about a medieval samurai clang's fight for power with a profoundly tragic ending and visually stunning battle scenes. Man's lust for power and the futility of war has not changed over the centuries.
2. Peter Weir's masterpiece, Gallipoli, (talk about another great director who never won a Oscar), the story of the Australian soldiers fighting a distant, senseless war in Turkey, with my favorite scene early in the film where the protagonist's mentor reads to his younger brother, about what it is to be a man.
3. Terence Mallick's A Thin Red Line, released in the same year as Saving Private Ryan and got little press, but in many ways more personal, more intimate, and the emotional impact denser than the tropic foliage of its spectacular setting.

Blood Diamond, Seriously!! You don't think that it would be a movie that would impact you. But it has a message that really hits home. It's really made an impact on my life and I didn't even want to see it at first. (I was dragged along with my sister). I don't think anyone can see this movie and not look at diamonds* in a new way, and think about how that tiny little rock could have caused someone to lose their life. I urge anyone who hasn't seen it to do so as soon as humanly possibly, you will not be sorry.

"A Time to Kill" with Matthew McConoghey and Morgan Freeman (I'm pretty sure that's right!) **name edited - it was incorrect**
There is a trial scene towards the end of the movie, where Matthew is addressing the jury, and WOW, does it have a message there! You have to see it!
"Dragonfly" is another really good one. Very emotionally charged movie.
Oh, and one of the best I've ever seen was "Pay it Forward". Excellent movie with Helen Hunt.
And "50 First Dates" was awesome!

The Fisher King and With Honors. Both of these movies have powerful messages and remain unseen by most. Check 'em out.

Dogville completely changed my perspective on responsibility, arrogance and respect.
Matrix changed my basic life philosophy.
I also thought Pi had a great message, but it was too subtle to be very "powerful."

Actually, the recent film "Letters from Iwo Jima" has a very strong anti-war statement. This, I think, is a beacon of light in a time when we take everyday killings (war-related or not) just for granted.
