Either you tell him, or it's in your medical records or someone else who knows you've had one tells the doctor. And although beckdoobs is right...a past pregnancy is no proof of an abortion.
Just because a woman has "maternal scarring" doesn't mean she's had an abortion, even full term pregnancies that end in vaginal births leave scarring behind, forcep birth's leave scarring, C-sections leave scarring. Unless your GYN was the one who performed the abortion itself the only way he/she is going to know is if you speak up or it's in your records. It's just like being a virgin...no Gyn can tell if a woman is a virgin or not just by looking

Doctors are educated in observing changes in the body which occur with pregnancy, and there generally are some signs of scarring from an abortion.
If you have have had an abortion, do not try and hide the fact from a subsequent doctor, this is a major factor in your health care.
