Email works because it’s a baseline:
Advantages
-Everyone has it.
-You don’t have to worry about who is taking notes.
-By its very nature, it’s a paper trail record of the conversation.
-You can get to it whenever you want - respond once you have an answer, rather than repeatedly say "Not done yet"
-You can use email to prioritize tasks.

Disadvantages
-But email is slow and “noisy,” especially when there are a lot of people involved.
-Even if everyone else on your team is responding quickly, it can still take hours to reach a consensus that you know can be ironed out in a 10 minute face-to-face meeting.
-Email addiction leads to checking and responding to email non-stop, distracting oneself from completing other tasks

Phone
Advantages
-3-way calling for impromptu conference
-Speaker phones or headsets allow you to multi-task
-More personal
-Quicker if the other party is available and has an answer your hand

Disadvantages
-Requires that someone know the information you're looking for at the moment of conversation
-Requires that person be able to answer their phone immediately
-Voicemail may lead to phone tag
-Time zones
