The last prime minister expressed "deep regret", but does that qualify as an official apology? What form of apology would really satisfy people in China, Korea and the Philippines?

Has any country EVER apologized for their war crimes?

The United States especially...

Don't pick on Japan buddy... They wanted nothing to do with us. But of course... there was native people and untouched land to get our tacky little fingers on so TRADE became paramount... We just had to get inside and see what all the hub bub was all about.

Now you know... An otherwise gentle people who are not afraid to fight for their land.

At least Japan never wiped an entire race of indigenous people practically off the face of the earth. As an American Indian, I am STILL waiting for an apology for that!

there have been few phony professional forma apologies, yet not something like from Germany. as quickly as I meet youthful jap human beings, they pass out of their thank you to tell me the main infantile lies approximately WW2 atrocities. not so Germans I meet. Japan by no skill returned a super sort of the valuables stolen in China and so on. 1931-1945. some distance under Germany. certainly, there look a super sort of stupid human beings in Japan who think of blaming each and every thing on the Koreans will convince every person yet themselves. that's why anybody from Russia to Australia hates Japan.

No, I don't think so. This is what irks Korea, China, and all the others. They give out foreign aid, and charity, but they haven't actually said: "We're sorry for turning your women into comfort women, and for killing your citizens."

^^What the woman said. The United States has become one of the worst human rights violators (hey! We don't like Che Guevarra, or Fidel Castro, let's assasinate them!).

Japanese people are not a people who are likely to apologize for their mistakes. By acknowledging their mistakes, they consider themselves to have lost face. Nothing is more important in their culture except for saving face. While the current serving prime minister may have apologized for World War II. He probably represents a minority of his people in this apology.
