How does it lessen pollution and help the environment if _I_ live a "carbon free life" while rich politicians buy my "carbon offset credits" and keep on driving Hummers, flying in their private 747's, riding around in stretch limos, using megawatt hours of electricity, etc.
How does that help the 'cause'?

Completely agree but if we are all expecting other people to change their behaviour before we change ours we will destroy our planet.

Whatever we do, as individuals or as a collective we have to realise this is no longer a question of "if you don't do it Mr Power why should I do it?" this is more, do I want to survive or destroy the human race? It’s a personal decision in the western world so we all have to live with our choice.

Global warming affect everyone not just the poor, and you cannot build a cocoon with all your money to save you from doom, even though African countries are the most affected by our environment policies

Carbon free life, is a sound byte. Humans always have trade-offs. Our ancestors decided that fire was good. We moved into caves to get out of the elements and probably ate animals, because they tasted good. We probably need to scale back, but it must be voluntary. Persuasion is better than coercion.

We should all be more energy efficient. We need to use hydro and solar power. They provide more energy too. As far as politicians go, they are all hypocrites.

It doesn't. They are elitist. I drive a small car and I know many liberals and bushaters who drive big trucks or SUVs.
