Well, thats not exactly true.
Members of Congress must serve in Congress for a minimum of 5 years to be vested in the Congressional pension plan.
Members must be 62 years old to start collecting their pensions.
exceptions:
those who serve more than 20 years, can start collecting their pension at age 50.
Or at any age after serving 25 years.
Congressmen since 1984 are under FERS Federal Employee Retirement System.
Congressmen since 1984 also pay into SS.

who ever promised anything in life was going to be fair? is it fair that one privately owned company controls US monetary policy and essentially the entire American economy? is it fair that this one business is the single most profitable business in the world? is it fair that the media won't cover this story? is it fair that very few Members of Congress, puppets, will speak openly about this issue? is it fair that the american people are working a third of each year just to pay taxes? Did you know in 1900 that the average American only paid about 5% of their earnings in the form of taxation to support federal, state and local government but 100 years later that amount was over 33%? is it fair that, since their is no law requiring Americans to pay a personal income tax that the IRS still forces most people to do so?
I can go on but you get the point. There are a lot of things that are unfair but until the American people grow a spine and learn to stand up on their own two feet and raise the bar it will only get worse.

No, it is not, nor will it ever be fair to have congressmen get pensions for life. I can think of better use of our tax money! This is just another ingenius plan to keep the rich richer, and the poor
even poorer.

Guess who voted on Congress' pension plan?
CONGRESS!
It may well be unfair, but it's not surprising.
I would hope the pension starts small, and is raised only with increasing years of service.

I'm not sure how the pension plan works. Is the amount of the pension determined by years of service? I will tell you that I don't have a problem with them having a pension plan though. The problem isn't that some have pension plans. The problem is that we don't all have pension plans.

No. But again, they (congress) are able to vote for their own pay raises so why would any other part of their monetary gain be fair? It's ridiculous. Only in America.

Hell no!! These jobs positions used to be social service where they did not even get paid. This weeded out all of the scumbags looking to get rich with as little effort possible. Let's see how many of the current congressmen would stay if they did not get paid and the fat benefits.

Using the word fair and congress in the same sentence is ludicrous. Using the words corrupt, inept and congress in the same sentence should be mandatory.

It is absolutely not fair. They should pay into social security like the rest of us, then maybe they will fix it.
