An OB is a normal doc for any pregnancy. If you're using a midwife, then I see them referring to OB's for probs.
Your BP though is something to watch, just in case. Call the OB you used with your other 2 kids.

I'm a student midwife from Malta, about to graduate in 3 months, here in Malta the routine is that pregnant mothers have a consulting obstetrician during their pregnancy, whom they visit a number of times. but the codes of conduct for a midwife state that a midwife is trained to care for mothers during pregnancy, and they should refer mothers to obstetricians only if they detect something abnormal, such as a high blood pressure or high blood glucose. i think you made the best choice, you're keeping your pregnancy as a natural process in life, rather than a medicalized experience, your midwife will surely know when to refer you to an obstetrician should the need arise, but until things are fine, i see no reason why you should visit an obstetrician

If this is your third child, you've been to the obstetrician before.....that's what OB/GYN means.....obstetrician/gynecologist........
while you're pregnant that's usually the only Dr. you see during the nine months even if it's something other than a pregnancy problem.
They specialize in your care while you're pregnant.....
you wouldn't want a regular family dr. give you meds that would jeopardize the health of your baby, would you?

Obstetricians deal with pregnancy, they don't usually interfere with the actual birth, unless they are needed, but they do oversee pregnancies. I'd suggest that you voice your concerns, saying that you didn't see one with your previous pregnancies. They will be best placed to answer your questions. Good luck with the rest of your time, and don't worry, just ask them why.

Ok no need to worry yet. Just call your doc and ask. You have a right to this information. Ask if there is a problem or if this is something new since you had your last child.

Your BP is a little low & this could be why. Don't worry though. You should get a thorough check with the OB - maybe have a 12 week scan with him/her.

Reread your question. Then ask yourself if you would worry if you were seeing a doctor on a regular basis. Why would you take your life & your baby's life in your own hands? Go see the doctor, stop worrying, & have a happy, healthy pregnancy. Best of luck to you honey. Peace.

AN obstetrician is someone who gives pre-natal care and delivers babies. That's their specialty.
