I'm female! It's for a parade so formal dress, and I can't wear my Highland dancing shoes as I'll be outside. Also what socks should I wear, or do I wear tights?? Any help much appreciated.

Brugues. There are shoes which have a medium heel about 1"to 1/2"and have a Brougish look but are not clod hoppers.Tights would be fine. The kilt is really a mans item of clothing so there
are no hard and fast rules for ladies.

Aren't there formal socks to wear?

They have a pocket or patch of fabric to match the kilt being worn. Are you dancing in the parade, or simply walking? You may want to purchase some plain, all-black tennis shoes for cheap.

Ironicly my polka boots. Funny thing is I'm Polish, Black & Native American.

Slouch socks, just pull them all the way up. I danced for 15 years. Two pair of socks so my shoes fit tightly.

I would wear comfortable black flats and tights. You could probably get away with wearing black riding boots, however, trust me, you don't want to walk for more than a mile in riding boots. You'll have blisters for weeks afterward.

I dont know what it is for women but men its just boots so maybe its a different type of boot for women i dunno. Just ask your local kilt fitter about everything or give one a quick phone i think they would help you out.
