Because of the inordinate burden that was put on the US to curb our CO2 production and the lack of any controls for China

Edit - Crossstitch learn some history. The Kyoto Protocal was soundly defeated(95-0 so you could consider that bi-partisan) when brought to the Senate for confirmation during Clinton's administration.

The main reason is this: the Kyoto Protocol enforces certain standards on member nations that approve it that are of certain economic standing. The Protocol does not, however, enforce those standards on nations that are not of the same economic standing.

In effect, we would be held to a higher standard than developing nations, and our funds would be given to developing nations to develop their own environmentally safe programs. That in and of itself isn't a problem, but the United States isn't about to let any international organization tell it what it has to do with its money.

It's not that the USA doesn't approve--it's that BUSH doesn't approve. We have the misfortune of having a Republican president right now who is fanatically devoted to his big business buddies. He knows that abiding by the Kyoto Protocol would mean his pals would have to spend a lot of money to curb the pollution they're generating now. It doesn't matter to him that this policy will hurt everyone else in the world, as long as his buddies don't have to fork over any money.

Because its inconvenient...and un-American. Imagine...having an international body dictate how businesses should be run!

There are many arguments that state that there are other countries that don't follow...so why should we? Great attitude. If they don't have to go to bed at 8:00, then we shouldn't have to either! They will say that it leads to unfair economic advantage, but really....how important will that be when the water level raises 20 feet, and the coastal US is under water?

Because President Bush makes a lot of money off the oil companys and limiting greenhouse gasses means limiting fossil fuels useage meaning less money for poor ol President Bush, thats how he makes his money so of course while every OTHER decent country agreed to this Bush waved it away knowing full well the hole he has dug us in.

Horray for big business and greed with no contempt for the enviroment!!

funny how "some" people in here seem to gloss over the fact that Clinton didn't sign it either.... the reason is its unattainable and puts too much burden on our economy. and what anonymous said. its a funds siphoning scheme

'Cos it's useless. No country who signed it is anywhere close to their promised emission caps, and the USA was smart enough to see that going in.

S'ok, GW is just a silly lib myth.

Because it will only prop up the economies of our enemies. You don't need to be a brain surgeon to figure that out.
