EXCELLENT QUESTION!
I would rather hear all the school children in the United States shout that question every morning at the beginning of class than hear them recite the pledge of allegiance!

Tax money is government's income and its main asset. If the govt is poor it will require foreign aids(alms) or loans as per conditions of other nations or world banks , the country will not be 100 % "independent" in true sense of the term. See your neighbours. Tax income is used for any govt scheme for development. Always a strong buffer asset of the govt must be ready as it controls and regulates all schemes properly. Then only the country will be really strong. Of course, asset should not be misused but all the time it should not be presumed that corruption is a part of political life, a negative mentality indeed. Mamta Banerjee did not even take a cup of tea out of govt money while being 'Unon Railwey Minister'.

In a federal budget crisis that we have now, Congress both the Senate and the House of Representatives increased their paychecks while stating on record that the bill is for the middle-class because it increases the minimum wage. The reason Iraq is costing so much because the government is subsidizing federal contractors who should not be in Iraq especially when the nation is in a civil war. The National-Union desires to end these fraudulent programs in Washington D.C. http://www.voteprimous.com

On top of everything else (military, entitlements, interest on debt), some of it pays for the bureaucracy - the many employees implementing government programs.
One advantage of increasing the privatizing of retirement and health care programs is that the private sector seems to operate much more efficiently than the federal government. Companies need to show a profit! Therefore there is much more incentive to cut wasteful activities.

fatten their bank accounts. Those who said pay military and fund guns are wrong...less than 30% of all taxes go to fund all of our military and guns. Most of the money is used by politicians for their personal escapades.
