I have a story for you--a young man posted a statement in a chat room, something along the lines of doing away with the president. There were 3 other people in the chat room with him, one he knew personally, and two were strangers. Two days later, this young man gets a visit from the local police, asking him about his Internet use, his chatting history, etc. etc. They charged him with suspicion to do harm to the president. Not only did they haul him in, but also the other three chatters. He sat in juvey hall for 3 weeks while the FBI or whoever analyzed his computer. They eventually let him go, and the others too, but he has strict orders to not own or even USE a computer until the matter is resolved. This all happened to my mom in laws friends' son a little over 2 years ago, when he was 12! He hasn't owned a computer (and only uses one in school while the teachers monitor him) this whole time. The interesting thing is, the comp he was using was a laptop, less than a week old. Basically, he was messing around on his brand new comp, and someone took him a little too seriously. As far as why he got in trouble for the comment, another member in the room (I heard) was already being monitored by the goverment. Therefore, just him being in the same chat room, and making a joke about offing the president got him in deep doo-doo. Are we being monitored? Most likely. Can you freely express your right to free speech in any format you so choose? Obviously not.

Not exactly. I mean they don't sit around and read everything that is on the site. They do have monitors of it though. When certain things come up it is flagged by the Govt and then a Govt employee will read it.

Oh and jane threatening to kill the President IS A TERRORISTIC THREAT, same as threatening to "off" anyone. It ISN'T free speech to make terroristic threats and never has been. Actually if anyone ever READ the First Amendment it says that Congress shall make no laws ABRIDGING your freedom of speech. You can SAY anything, you just have to realize that there CAN BE consequences. I realize at 12 most don't understand that and it seems like a severe way to learn that lesson but I bet even you are careful of your wording now, realizing that those words can have consequences.

I think we are all safe as long as we use the correct language. If the right catch words are used, expect a file to be opened in your name.

Honestly, I think it would be naive to believe that this is not monitored in some way. The government did get search engines to turn over search information. The information you enter here will probably never be used against you. But I do believe that there are people who would try if the they had the time and the ability to do so.

No, We, er, I mean the government is NOT monitoring this site. So feel free to post about anything you may know, think or feel about us, I mean, the uh, government.

Also, don't be alarmed if any of your friends or family members have mysteriously disappeared. They decided to run away and not tell anyone where they are going. If you look under their bed you'll find a very vague, typed, unsigned note that proves it.

Thank you have a nice day,
~Not the government

Why don't you ask them? You know the gov't does monitor all web sites since 9/11. They are looking for certain communicate that contain messages on another attack on North American soil. Al-qadea especially. Anyone with ties to the middle-east. Sleeper cells,etc......

I have no clue. Wire tapping?. Data transmission can be logged though over system hops going from my PC to yahoo. Yahoo stores this data somewhere and it can be analyzed. Someone may be looking at it but not necessarily the government.

I'm sure the government is alerted to what they consider to be suspicious activity. If they monitor the Internet for pornography I"m sure they can do it for anything.
