I sent out my passport application to be processed expedited and it came back in less than 2 weeks, no problems.

Now of my friends are having trouble ... one had it sent to her, but it was sent back to the Passport Agency because she was unable to sign for it when it came in .. now she can't even speak to a human at that Passport Agency.

The other friend applied for his one day after mine, and has not received it, been over 3 weeks now. When he went to look up the status on the federal website, it says that they have no record of him, and he cannot get through to anyone.

Travel date is a week and half away, anyone have any ideas what to do?

They won't allow people to go to Passport Agency without an appt, and can't make an appt, because the phone lines are all automated and can't reach anyone.

Crazy, right! We can thank the government for passing the law that basically states "All U.S. citizens need a passport." It's good in theory, but it places a burden on regular legal citizens and dammit if we are to be inconvenienced. Ultimately, I think it's meant to help stop illegal immigration & terrorists who illegally immigrate (which I am totally for, its sad that some people are against that). Anyways, that law went into affect sometime in January, now everyone is scrabbling for a passport. That rush, I assume, has backed up the U.S. government. You have to understand, government employees only work as hard and fast as required, and that amount, is the minimum to just get by (experience as government employee). I applied for my passport on Jan. 31 (sent it off) and to date, they have cashed my check, but their records show they have no information for me. Does that make any sense, they took my money, but as far as the passport is concerned, who am I? I wish I could help you, but your friend might be...um....screwed.

I don't know if you have tried this and depending on if this a renewal or a new passport the procedures are different. Under new government law you can apply for a passport at your local Post Office and they may be able to help you get an expedited service. (there is an extra fee for that)

I would also suggest that if your friend paid by check for his passport check to see if the check has been cashed from his bank this should help in getting proof that they received the paperwork at least.

If you are in any of the following cities and can get in to the office (which sounds like you can't) Boston, Chicago, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Stamford (CT), and Washington, D.C., try walking in and making an appointment to come back rather than calling ahead sometimes that works. They can get it done in 3 days for a $30 fee as long as you have proof that you are leaving the country in 10 days or less (show airline tickets, etc. )

Good luck and hope this helps.

We had the same problem. We weren't in the system for about a week. Then we appeared back in the system again with a 3/3/07 delivery date. Hopefully, that comes true.

Apparently the online status check is not always accurate.

Nothing you can do.
It is obvious you did not act when the announcement was first made regarding the new requirements, additionally there was an extra fee for expediting which you did not option to take.
Oh well, just wait you will get it and while you are waiting, blame it all on illegal immigration and terrorism. . . there it is.!.!
