Why is pot illegal while alcohol is not?

It has more to do with history and culture than right or wrong. Most of the United States citizens are Christian and therefore use wine in religious events.
Plus, when the US tried to outlaw alcohol it just led to a surge in organized crime. It caused more problems than it solved.
Pot is illegal because it was formerly associated with blacks and Mexicans. It was a way to get Mexicans out of the country back in the 20s.
The health dangers of alcohol are widely known yet most of the dangers of marijuana are misinformed or unjustified. For instance, a cannabis smoker is no more likely to develop Cancer than a person who doesn't smoke anything at all.
A person going through alcohol detoxification is more likely to die than a person going through heroin detox.
Possession of Marijuana has been decriminalized in many states, and this trend is expected to continue, despite efforts by the federal government to remain stern in their enforcement of all marijuana laws.
Marijuana has also been found to have medical uses for AIDS and Cancer patients and many other illnesses and ailments.

Alcohol was not always legal. That is how the mob made so much money. They used to sell booze. The only reason that marijuana is illegal is because the government can not make a good enough profit off of it. They make more from drug fines and free labor from ones that are incarcerated for selling.

But it is legal for those whom have to use it for municipal purposes and if it is part of thier religous traditions. Well, the municipal purposes I know to be true. But I just read the one about religion purposes the other day. I don't know about the authenticity of that claim.

Many many years ago...in the ancient underground hideout of Baspinar, who was a wizard in serving to King Edward, Baspinar predicted that many centuries in the future some pots would not be used for flowers. Some pots would take people into a world full of evil and wrong.And many of those mistaken people would never return from that world...only those who had meditated for 2000 years under the Tree Of Forgiveness. He called this horrific thing POT.
Baspinar also predicted that mankind would not be able to resist trips to other worlds and so he created a fluid which would only temporarily settle in a persons mind...dangerous but not doomed. He called this less horrific thing ALCOHOL.

Perhaps David Cameron would let us smoke dope and pot freely?

Because the U.S. realized when they tried to outlaw alcohol (prohibition) that it wasn't going to work.

So maybe everyone should smoke pot at bars and houses like (speak easys) and equal the amount that did it when alcohol was illegal to show the government that it can't wins this fight.

Pot has shorter side effects than alcohol but who are we to say things are right or wrong.

Yes it is backward. You are totally right. I would much prefer to meet someone on the highway who is stoned than someone who has drank a bottle of liquor. Maybe one of these days people will realize that pot is not the evil drug that some people make it out to be.

I was a bartender for many, many years. I cant tell you how many funerals I attended of people who were killed as a result drinking. Not only does alcohol kill people who drive drunk, but it causes major health problems that will kill you as well.

I thought that too. Pot is way better than alcohol. It doesn't give you a hangover, and it doesn't impair your sight that much.. unless you're REALLY stoned. There are chemicals in it but what about alcohol? Like that's really safe for you too. Plus it used as medicinal for nausea and vomiting in California. It even helps the skinny people gain weight with all those munchies!

At one time time, alcohol was illegal. If you read your history. But the government couldn't stop the ensuing surge in crimes committed by mobs and other criminals who were there to supply the enormous demand. So they relegalized it, and all that crime went away. What do you think relegalizing pot could do for the country? Thats right. Contact your senators and congressmen. We are closer than ever to de-prohibiting marijuana. We Americans have to PUSH for our right to the pursuit of happiness!

Heck ya, pal! I'll tell you what, though; the problem is that legalizing pot would destroy a huge amount of profiteering, and that would make the government's prime enemies disappear faster than any anti-drug campaign. But, hey; if you legalize any substance, you can regulate it while ordinary people can buy it. It's a win-win situation. Just my two cents...

I remember this from the 60's 70's etc. Nothing was changed because like now, nothing is done by the people in favor. Have you lobbied? Have you contacted representatives? No, just like before, people talk to each other about how it should be done, but they talk to only the people that agree. I neither agree, nor disagree, I have tried both, don't like either one.

0000 to 1500 - Britain People throw urine etc into rivers, streams etc. Most people die drinking water. Mead an alcohol from bees much safer. given to babies if you want them to live

and worst of all freed black slaves are making money selling hemp and other marijuana products.

These men thought they had to harm the Chinese, different religions and most of all hurt blacks. Because these men KNEW god made blacks to work in their grandpappy's cotton fields.
So the new drugs laws came in to hurt bloody foreigners and these men knew that blacks, should be worked then burnt and NOt allowed to make money.
Look up marijuana (correct spelling please) and history on Net. First two articles are brilliant and show how Chinese, Arabs etc used marijuana for so many things especcially medicine.
Australian Medical Association has publicly declared drugs should NOT be illegal BUT should be available by prescription from ordinary doctors like all the legal drugs like penicillin.
My doctor wants to be able to prescribe heroin to a cancer patient with only weeks to live, He wants to prescribe pot to an anorexic, He wants to prescribe pot to a woman covered in bruiese so she can cope while she leaves her abusive man, andit would let her cook tea and eat it.
As a retired teacher I really feel I could kill the White House people.
I have seen, talked to and helped so many children , BEATEN(scars on their backs), Incested ( at the age of 7yrs), mums in hospital, etc as a result of alcohol
Drug laws are there to help the friends of the White House who make a fortune from South American drugs.
