I guess I don't fit the "mold". I'm a Christian. I've already read the Bible. Now I'm currently reading the Torah so I can understand the differences. After I get done with that, I'm planning on reading the Koran. All the worlds "real" religions are based on the same premises, and they all sprang from Abraham and his 12 sons. Therefore, they should have a lot of similarities. And I'm gonna find them.

NONE of us are ever going to all be exactly alike, and believe all the same things. I think to have true religious harmony in the world, we need to start focusing on the similarities we all share, rather than harping on the differences.

As a Christian I am firm in my faith of Christ Jesus. I am also not afraid of reading about other religions. Before I became a Christian I had studied ancient religions and philosophies from the ancient pagan religions to the more modern religions.
With Jesus being the Son of God and the Savior there really is no need to read about people with some ideas that they think are better in their egotistical minds.
Jesus said that He is the only way. The key word being only. As in there can be only One. He died for us so that if we believe in Him then we will not have to be judged by God for our sins. They are already forgiven and paid for by Jesus Christ. I don't need to study Islam. Although I have studied about the claimed prophet Muhammed. He was no more a prophet than Charlie Manson is a rocket scientist.
I do not feel threatened by other religions. I just don't need them. With Jesus sacrificing for us, why would God send another? As far as Islam, with God being perfect in all ways, He would not use a child molester as a prophet to spread His word. Having a 9 year old girl as a wife is even for the era, a child molester and sick.
As far as the other religions I have studied about, Hinduism? I don't believe God is a monkey, or elephant. Budism? To attain godhead through meditation? I still haven't ever seen anyone attain this through meditation. Wiccan? God has already said that this is an abomination, and Jesus let it be known that these people would not go to Heaven.
So, what is the point to keep on reading about other religions?
It has nothing to do with being threatened, but it is you who does not understand. Jesus predicted that there would be many with a closed mind and closed eyes to the truth of God and the Christ Jesus.
May God's truth, love and wisdom open your heart, eyes and mind someday.

Following one religion without studying what others believe, is the same as someone saying." I like apple pie so much that I've never tasted any other ".
Common sense tells us that we can't judge anything without having all the facts. When a person says that anything he likes, what he believes, what he does is right - - - - everything else is wrong, he doesn't sound any too intelligent.
Knowledge never hurt anyone, but the lack of it is murder.

I can not agree with the very premise that people are afraid of learning about different religions so this can not be answered.

Because they are narrow minded and are afraid that they might find something in another religion they could agree with. Many religions have the same ideals as their own.

I don't think that its 'fear'. They aren't afraid. Its rather that their religious leaders have ingrained into them that their god is the one true god, and any person who believes anything else is some sort of barbaric, depraved heathen, destined to spend eternity in the fires of hell. And- their ultimate role in life is to convince non-believers of their one true god.

so- they are not afraid of learning about different religions. They are taught that other beliefs are just plain wrong, and are therefore unimportant.

I'm an atheist and I find all religions very interesting. I have many books in my home addressing religions and faiths of all kinds.

An open mind is constantly learning.

Most adults don't have time to learn about another religion. Learning one religion is hard enough and no one can agree on anything. Don't judge.
