Batting average is hits divided by at-bats. Slugging percentage is number of hits plus one for each double, two for each triple, and three for each home run, and then the total number divided by at-bats. 3 hits in 10 at-bats garners a batting average of .300. 3 hits, which includes one double, means 3 plus 1, and then the total divided by at-bats. If the at-bats is 10, then 4 divided by 10 garners a slugging percentage of .400. I hope this is clear, thanks.

These are the formulas (you also need to remember these are % . So a math
comes out to .300 for what we call a 300 hitter. If you're batting a thousand you're really batting one)
BATTING AVE.=TOTAL # OF HITS DIVIDED BY TOTAL # OF AT BATS
EX. If you have 8 hits in 20 AB 8 divided by 20 = .400
OR 20 hits in 20 AB 20 div. by 20 = 1.000
SLUGGING % = TOTAL # OF BASES DIVIDED BY TOTAL # OF AT BATS
HR=4 BASES, TRIPLE=3 BASES, DOUBLE 2 BASES, SINGLE=1 BASE
The highest slugging % possible is 4 or 4.000 (we'd call that 4 thousand)
EX. If you hit a HR in your only AB you'd have
4 TOTAL BASES DIVIDED BY 1 AB= 4.000

slugging percentage is total number of bases divided by the number of at-bats..total number of bases is computed by getting the number of bases per hit(1 for a single,2 for a double,and so forth) and adding them all up..
batting average is number of hits divided by the number of at-bats

A slugging percentage is when you take your batting average (BA) and your on base percentage (OBP) and combine them. A batting average is the number of times you hit the ball out of the number of attempts. A good slugging percentage in the MLB is .500 and a good batting average is .300.
