Batting average is hits divided by at-bats. Slugging percentage is number of hits plus one for each double, two for each triple, and three for each home run, and then the total number divided by at-bats. 3 hits in 10 at-bats garners a batting average of .300. 3 hits, which includes one double, means 3 plus 1, and then the total divided by at-bats. BATTING AVE.=TOTAL # OF HITS DIVIDED BY TOTAL # OF AT BATS
EX. If you have 8 hits in 20 AB 8 divided by 20 = .400
OR 20 hits in 20 AB 20 div. by 20 = 1.000

SLUGGING % = TOTAL # OF BASES DIVIDED BY TOTAL # OF AT BATS

The highest slugging % possible is 4 or 4.000 (we'd call that 4 thousand)
