Not if Jeb Bush was managing the Oscars and his brother was up for an award against Gore! That's still one of the most ridiculous, pathetic instances of political cronyism in the country's history.

What role did he play to win an Oscar?
One has to pay to be nominated for any of those awards. Him getting an Oscar only proves that he bought it just like Arafat bought his Nobel Peace award. If you have enough money, you can buy most anything.

Technically Al Gore didn't win, but his movie did. He was invited up because people were supporting his cause and wanted to let the public know that it is an important issue in Hollywood's eyes.

The answer to your original question is: the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences thought so. End of story.
As for your comment about the Academy Awards being held in Florida, well, that's just plain stupid.

Well it was the finest work of Science Fiction I have seen since "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" but I think he won an Oscar in the wrong category. None of the "Truths" in an " Inconvenient Truth" hold much scientific merit, And even If they did, his insistence that all of us find better ways to protect the environment from greenhouse gasses ( except for him of course, since several scenes from the movie show him aboard his private jet) would not end the mid-point of the 25,000 year interstaidal period we currently find ourselves. 12.5 thousand years since the last Ice Age and we will return to that Ice Age in another 12.5 thousand years cycles are always revolving that is why they are called cycles.

What, for best song? Heck no, that shoulda gone to someone else. But for the documentary feature...? Yeah, I saw that, and it was certainly a great documentary. Funny, witty, no droning... That was a pleasant surprise. I think that if anything, I hope he stays out of politics, and continues on in this arena. It's a good arena for him to be in...
As for your Florida question, well... I think he'd win again there, but, I can see where you're coming from... This is all just my two cents, mind.

No, it was all politically driven by Hollywood leftists. Environmental scientists have even debunked a number of the assertions in An Inconvenient Truth. It was a skewed attempt at alarmist environmentalism by a modern Don Quixote.

Nope, and it was a foregone conclusion that he was going to win. I'll bet the Nobel will come next, and all for a work of fiction.

Well, I saw his movie and thought it was boring, so no, I don't think he deserved it. But I am not a member of the Motion Picture Academy so my opinion was not considered.

Al Gore is a hypocrite who loves to show his face and is not afraid to say that he is the best.
