It's an awesome bass. I like the P/J pickup configuration because it'll give you more tone variation. The price makes it attractive too. It says Squier because it's a second line brand of Fender (still Fender, but it's like, a more 'inferior' version).
Most Squiers are as good as real Fenders so I'd say that the tone is pretty good, the graphics look awesome too. You can read more detailed reviews here:

A couple of points to consider.
1. Musician's Friend is a good company - I've bought tons of stuff from them and have always been happy.
Once, a power conditioner was shipped busted.
They covered all return and replacement costs.
2. Fender makes a lot of good products.
To my understanding, the Squire is foreign-made.
Not a bad thing, but just be aware of that.
3. The price is good (again, due to it being made overseas) and is probably a good first-time bass.
4. Read the reviews at the Musician's Friend site...most are positive about this bass...that's a good sign.
5. MOST IMPORTANTLY: have you actually played this bass?
Have you played it through the amp you own (or a similar model)?
What do your EARS tell you about this bass?
What do your FINGERS tell you about the action and feel of the neck and body?
Now, after all that - YOU can make up your mind.

Lots of ppl look down on Squiers because it is Fender's economy line. But what matters is what you think because you are the one buying and playing it. If this is your first bass, I would recommend a visit to a music store to try out a few brands and models including your Squier. Then you can make your purchase decision based on that.

Fender makes some excellent guitars. Top of the line is Fender American made. Middle of line is Fender Japanese and their economy model is the Squier guitars.
They are still pretty good guitars though, especially for the very reasonable pricetag.

Squier is a sub of Fender. I have a Squire Strat and I really like it. I also have a Squire P-bass and it also works good. The bass you're looking at looks pretty cool, too

Squire is made by fender. It is a fender. It is just the low line in price and quality. If you are just learning to play, I would say go for it. I play fenders and I love them. I have strats and teles and fender acoustics at my house and they are great. If you are beginning to play, your best choise by far would be the Squire. Good Luck, rock on.
