black people say that white people "owe them" for slavery when the majority of whites in this country had ancestors who had NOTHING to do with slavery? Only a small number of white people whose ancestors were southern have anything to do with slavery. The people from the North and way out west and the large number who have immigrated here since after slavery was abolished owe black people nothing.

I have never uttered those words, nor will I ever. I don't think you should generalize from what you may hear on TV or the radio. 99% of African-American people that I know personally don't feel we are owed anything either. Slavery was a horrible time in American history. I think it bothers us African-Americans that a small percentage of the population out there downplay slavery like it wasn't that bad even though we all know it was beyond horrific. Take the time to do some research on slavery and you might get an idea why a small percentage would feel like they're entitled to some compensation for what their ancestors went through. The school systems don't really spend enough time educating young people on the subject of slavery. Please don't generalize any group of people because it only leads to misconceptions and misconceptions lead to a lot worse things.

True, the majority of whites didnt own slaves, but, only a very small group actually opposed slavery.

You know what they say, to stand by and watch bad things being done and not say or do anything about it is worse than actually doing something bad in the first place.

But I dont think black people say the whites owe them. I've never heard that before. But I think they have the right to ask that whites and the government acknowledge that slavery was wrong and that many blacks still live with the consequences of it today.

That being mentioned, I agree with you.

It is not all black people it is a generation of people that want something for nothing, the feel they are owed a free ride in life and if someone has something they want the take it, this is not only in the black race it is in all races and it seems to be the generation that is approaching 30 in a few years and what is a shame is these same people are reproducing at a high rate and we are being stuck with another generation that was taught by these same ignorant people. that is why you read all these stories in the papers about moms and sons going on drive by shootings. All I can say is America's youth need a good but kicking and a reality check, no wonder this place is turning into a cesspool

You don't know a lot of black people, you just assume we say that. Just because you saw a posting or two that have made that statement doesn't mean its common. The only white man that owes me is my soon to be exhusband.
