What is the meaning of this Quote? What is he tryin to say?

"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it . . . every, every minute?"

Stage Manager:

"No . . . the saints and poets maybe, they do, some."

He was saying that people don't realize life,the small moment they share for what they are. But ironically,he says,"but the saints and poets do",saying,that he understands what life is, and other writers too.

We eat without tasting, we look without seeing, we hear without heeding, we feel without thinking... the unexamined life is not worth living... people don't appreciate life while it is theirs... people don't get it until it's too late...
